Dear National Federations,

The WKF Executive Committee (EC) met yesterday 22nd June by videoconference to discuss the current situation and decide on the next steps for the coming months.

Certainly, one of the key issues for which a final decision was needed by the WKF EC is the World Senior Championships in Dubai that were scheduled for the month of November this year. In the past months, a thorough assesment on the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and more specifically the situation in the UAE, has been made, with continuous revisions and updates. Finally, we regret to announce that, as agreed between the UAE Karate Federation and the WKF we are forced to postpone the World Senior Championships 2020 for one year.

This means that the World Senior Championships in Dubai will now take place in 2021 in the month of November in equivalent dates as they were scheduled for 2020. As a result of this postponement, we also inform you that the WKF Congress, in line with WKF Statutes, will therefore be postponed for one year and will be held at the occasion of the World Senior Championships 2021. Detailed information in relation to the World Senior Championships, as well as the call for the Congress, and other relevant information, will be shared with all our NF members in due course. This postponement of Dubai means that the World Cadet, Junior and U21 Championships will take place in 2022, the World Senior Championships again in 2023, and so on.

We sincerely hope that the COVID-19 pandemic will be overcome rather soon and are already looking forward to meeting you when competition resumes.

Best regards,

Antonio Espinós
WKF President
